Aims of Module
To enable the student to explain, analyse, evaluate and apply the law relating to child care and child protection and build upon the knowledge developed in Family Law.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Demonstrate high-level of knowledge and understanding of the principles and policy of child care law.
2 Analyse and evaluate complex legal issues in child care.
3 Apply child care law to complex practical situations and problems and propose solutions.

Indicative Module Content
This module will cover child care law namely children in need; child protection policies; protection orders; child assessment order; child protection order; permanence order; exclusion order; risk of sexual harm orders; Children's Hearing System; a comparison with the English care system; the rights of the asylum/refugee child; an introduction to International law; mental health issues; education law; wrongful life and death.

Module Delivery
This is a lecture and seminar based module. Lectures provide core module content. Seminars develop associated higher level skills through student centred learning.
