Aims of Module
To allow students to focus on specific aspects of criminal responsibility and critically appraise these issues from a theoretical, philosophical and comparative perspective.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Identify and appraise key concepts in the theoretical literature on responsibility.
2 Critically discuss the meaning of those concepts and apply them to specific scenarios.
3 Identify, appraise and evaluate approaches to these issues in other jurisdictions.

Indicative Module Content
Students will study: general theories of responsibility; philosophical conceptions of responsible action; factors commonly viewed as diminishing or removing responsibility (age, mental states, provocation); approaches to these issues in selected foreign jurisdictions

Module Delivery
This is a lecture and seminar based module. Lectures provide core module content. Seminars develop associated higher level skills through student centred learning.
