To allow students to focus on specific aspects of criminal responsibility and critically appraise these issues from a theoretical, philosophical and comparative perspective. |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Identify and appraise key concepts in the theoretical literature on responsibility. |
2 | Critically discuss the meaning of those concepts and apply them to specific scenarios. |
3 | Identify, appraise and evaluate approaches to these issues in other jurisdictions. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
Students will study: general theories of responsibility; philosophical conceptions of responsible action; factors commonly viewed as diminishing or removing responsibility (age, mental states, provocation); approaches to these issues in selected foreign jurisdictions |
