Aims of Module
The module provides an overview of environmental crime, both domestically and internationally.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Critically evaluate the legal framework and procedure for environmental crime
2 Communicate the benefits or otherwise of a distinct crime of ecocide
3 Critically evaluate the moral and psychological theories around the perpetration of environmental crime
4 Evaluate the impact of environmental crime on society and how this can be mitigated

Indicative Module Content
The module covers the key principles of environmental crime, with a focus on crimes relating to water, waste and wildlife. It would examine the particular issues of policy practice and procedure for dealing with environmental crime as a distinct area. It also examines the theories and pathologies of those who commit wildlife crime and its impact on society. Finally, the module places these issues in the wider international concept and in particular the growing understanding of ecocide.

Module Delivery
This module is delivered through a combination of workshops and tutorials. These will explore different perspectives on the core subject matter, using case studies and real life examples.
