Aims of Module
To identify the particular social and cultural context for gender based violence and sex offending

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Evaluate the theoretical approaches to gender constructs, and the root causes of gender based violence.
2 Evaluate the distinction in law and policy between gender based violence and sexual offences.
3 Evaluate the intersectional issues which arise in this area.
4 Critique the legal framework in these areas against the theories and understanding of gender based violence explored in this module.

Indicative Module Content
The module will draw on the key theories which help to explain this issue in its widest context. This will provide a basis for understanding and critiquing the legal and policy responses to these crimes and the process for dealing with the offenders and victims of those crimes.

Module Delivery
This module is delivered through a combination of workshops and tutorials. These will explore different perspectives on the core subject matter, using case studies and real life examples.
