Aims of Module
To develop skills in relation to the preparation and delivery of written and oral legal arguments in a forensic setting.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Apply legal knowledge to, and formulate legal arguments in respect of, problem scenarios using appropriate legal authority.
2 Demonstrate understanding of forensic rhetoric.
3 Prepare written and oral legal arguments in the appropriate forms.
4 Present a persuasive oral argument in a courtroom or tribunal setting.

Indicative Module Content
Advocacy skills, courtroom decorum, the importance of rhetoric, drafting written submissions, presenting oral arguments in an appellate or Tribunal setting

Module Delivery
This is a lecture and seminar based module. Lectures provide core module content. Seminars develop associated higher level skills through practical workshop sessions and student centred learning.

Description: Written coursework worth 30% of the overall module grade
Component 2
Type: Practical Exam Weighting: 60% Outcomes Assessed: 1, 2, 3, 4
Description: Presentation of legal argument in a court or tribunal setting worth 60% of the overall module grade
Component 3
Type: Coursework Weighting: 10% Outcomes Assessed: 1, 2, 3, 4
Description: Preparation of a reflective report on the development of one's advocacy skills throughout the duration of the course.
