Aims of Module | |||

To provide students with a working understanding of Family Law in Scotland and in particular the relationships of Husband and Wife; Civil Partnership; Cohabitees and Parent and Child. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Consider and analyse the main principles of family law. |
2 | Critically evaluate and analyse the legal consequences of key family law relationships such as marriage, civil partnership and parent and child. |
3 | Apply the understanding of the legal consequences of the key family law relationships to practical situations. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
Consideration of the features and legal consequences of marriage, matrimonial breakdown and the grounds for divorce; financial provision on divorce; cohabitation; legitimacy; parental rights and responsibilities; residence and contact; civil partnership; adoption and the key Human Rights Act 1998 implications of family law. |
