Aims of Module
To provide students with an ability to identify core concepts of criminal liability and critique specific offences in Scots criminal law.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Identify key elements of criminal liability and applicable defences.
2 Appraise substantive crimes and discuss the relationship between them and the key elements above.
3 Identify and solve problems in respect of specific offences.

Indicative Module Content
Actus reus and mens rea of crimes; art and part, and inchoate liability; defences and mitigating pleas; murder, culpable homicide and assault; sexual offences; breach of the peace and drugs; theft and offences against property.

Module Delivery
This is a lecture and tutorial based module. Lectures provide core module content. Tutorials develop associated higher level skills through student centred learning.
