Aims of Module
To critically explore how and why people are punished after breaking a law and how they are rehabilitated in society.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Distinguish the different sentencing rules and methods of punishment within the criminal justice system
2 Compare these with the reasons for their use and application
3 Describe the impacts and effects of the various forms of punishment and the individual.

Indicative Module Content
The module will look in more depth at the approach and rules taken in sentencing and other disposals in the criminal justice context, and provide an understanding of the rationale for these.

Module Delivery
This module is delivered through a combination of workshops and tutorials. These will explore different perspectives on the core subject matter, using case studies and real life examples.
