This module aims to familiarise the student with the nature and relevance of human rights in the United Kingdom and Scotland. |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Outline the development of human rights. |
2 | Evaluate the impact of UK human rights legislation and the problems therewith. |
3 | Understand individual human rights and the applicability thereof on specific subject matter including the criminal law, terrorism and prisoners. |

Historical background of human rights, UK human rights legislation, the effect of human rights law on criminal justice, terrorism and the prison population. |

This module is assessed by means of a component of substantive assessment, weighted at 100%. This is accompanied by a need to satisfy the participation requirements of the module, leading to the awarding of a Pass. The awarding of a D grade is the minimum requirement to pass the module, accompanied with a Pass for the participation requirements. | |
