Aims of Module
This module aims to familiarise the student with the nature and relevance of human rights in the United Kingdom and Scotland.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Outline the development of human rights.
2 Evaluate the impact of the UK human rights legislation and the problems therewith.
3 Understand individual human rights and the applicability thereof on specific subject matter including the criminal law, terrorism and prisoners.

Indicative Module Content
Historical background of human rights, UK human rights legislation, the effect of human rights law on criminal justice, terrorism and the prison population.

Module Delivery
This is a lecture and tutorial based module. Lectures provide core module content. Tutorials develop associated higher level skills through student centred learning.

MODULE PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTOR
Explanatory Text
Students will undertake five in-class quizzes. The top four will each count towards the module grade. The calculation of the overall grade for this module is based on 100% weighting of C1. An overall minimum Grade D is required to pass the module
Module Grade Minimum Requirements to achieve Module Grade:
A The student must achieve an A in C1
B The student must achieve a B in C1
C The student must achieve a C in C1
D The student must achieve a D in C1
E The student must achieve an E in C1
F The student must achieve an F in C1
