Aims of Module
To provide an overview and detail on the requirements of the role of a paralegal specialising in residential conveyancing.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Identify the key legal issues as they reflect the practical requirements of conveyancing
2 Relate compliance with the key processes which are followed in the selling of a residential property
3 Achieve compliance with the key processes involved in the purchase of a residential property, including the processes and interaction with the Registers of Scotland
4 Acquire the ability to manage and deal with the key financial and taxation issues which arise in the course of residential conveyancing

Indicative Module Content
An overview of the requirements for residential conveyancing including the legal framework, the issues which arise when selling a residential property, the issues which arise when purchasing a residential property and the taxation and other financial issues which arise. This includes the processes within the Registers of Scotland.

Module Delivery
Materials will be delivered in the University's online learning environment. Formative activities such as forum postings and online quizzes will help prompt learning reflection as a foundation for discussion in online live tutorials. Students will be encouraged to engage with how the materials being taught are evidence and embedded in their work based practice and this will be discussed and captured in the ways outlined above, and through the assessment. These materials will be supplemented by Law Society supported materials where appropriate.

Explanatory Text
Component 1 bears 100% of the grade required to generate the module grade. Component 2 is a participation requirement with each student normally required to complete interactive activities in this module and attend and participate in at least 4 out of the 6 synchronous online tutorial sessions. Non-submission of component 1 or non-completion of the participation competences in component 2 will result in an NS grade. An overall minimum grade D is required to pass the module.
