Aims of Module
To develop independence in the application of the research process and to integrate the use of the research process into clinical practice.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Independently execute a detailed research study in a specific area relevant to the field of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
2 Critically evaluate relevant literature, concepts and theories and data (primary or secondary) relevant to the field of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
3 Synthesise evidenced based arguments to inform professional practice.
4 Critically evaluate and reflect on any ethical implications or issues encountered while conducting the research study.
5 Critically evaluate findings and conclusions in relation to the advancement or contribution to the body of knowledge in psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

Indicative Module Content
Synthesis and integration of critical aanalysis of literature, critical discrimination between, and reasoned choice of, different research methodologies for different purposes, ethical issues in research, data collection and analysis.

Module Delivery
Problem solving tutorials, seminars. Each student will be allocated a project supervisor from whom (s)he will recieve tutorial support and relevant advice. The meetings will be initiated by the student and the supervisor will act as a facilitator
