Aims of Module
To undertake a supervised self directed research project in an area of interest.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Conduct a research or evidence based project demonstrating a high level of understanding of the processes involved.
2 Critically evaluate (primary or secondary) data relevant to practice.
3 Synthesise and critically discuss findings in the context of exiting research, relevant theories and current practice.
4 Critically evaluate the ethical implications of conducting a research or evidence based practice study.

Indicative Module Content
The research process; theory development; application of appropriate research tools; systematic review; synthesis and integration of critical analysis of literature; ethics and research governance; data collection and analysis; data handling; critical engagement with literature; methods of enquiry; reporting and dissemination of findings and overall project as a research report.

Module Delivery
This is a practical module devoted to research in a relevant field of study and may involve a wide range of techniques. The module is delivered by contact with an individual supervisor, with supporting online materials. There is provision for other staff to be involved in supervision in cases where this would provide expertise to supplement that of the supervisor.

Prerequisites for Module Successful completion of all Stage Three modules of Master of Dietetics, Diagnostic Radiography, Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy will normally be required.
