Aims of Module
This module aims to develop the skills necessary to design, conduct, analyse and evaluate physical and psychosocial assessment methods and to enhance knowledge of factors influencing the selection of appropriate assessment methods and increase understanding of contraindications to assessment in order to ensure safe and effective practice.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Critically evaluate the validity and reliability of selected methods and adaptations used to assess physical performance.
2 Critically evaluate the selection and adaptation of tools used to assess psychosocial wellbeing.
3 Justify the appropriate use of physical and psychosocial assessments for individuals through analysis of contraindications.
4 Design and conduct an appropriate physical and psychosocial assessment and evaluate the findings.

Indicative Module Content
Methods used to assess the physiological responses to exercise; methods for wellbeing assessment; critical appraisal of assessment protocols; factors influencing assessment selection; contraindications to assessment; knowledge of current medical treatment and intervention and impact on physical assessment.
