Aims of Module
This module aims to develop a critical understanding of the pathophysiology of specific health conditions, sedentary behaviour and comorbidities, and how these conditions influence the body's acute and long term responses to exercise as well as the role of, physical activity and exercise in the prevention, management and treatment of such conditions.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Critically discuss the pathology and physiology of inactivity and chronic health conditions.
2 Critically appraise the impact of chronic health conditions on the body's acute and long term responses to exercise.
3 Critically evaluate the impact of exercise on the prevention, management and treatment of specific health conditions.
4 Critically discuss the relationship between specific health conditions.

Indicative Module Content
The pathophysiology of chronic non-communicable diseases; physiology of sedentary behaviour; comorbidities; physiological adaptations to exercise; management strategies for chronic conditions; medical and non-medical treatments for chronic conditions; preventative care; reflective practice.
