Analysis Of Sports Technique
Reference HSM164 Version 2
Created September 2017 SCQF Level SCQF 11
Approved June 2016 SCQF Points 15
Amended September 2017 ECTS Points 7.5

Aims of Module
The aim of this module is to develop students’ ability to analyse and evaluate human movement from a kinematic perspective using both qualitative and quantitative methods.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Analyse and interpret a selected movement using a systematic qualitative approach.
2 Analyse and interpret a selected movement using a systematic quantitative approach.
3 Evaluate technique using qualitative and quantitative methods.
4 Critically evaluate qualitative and quantitative approaches to technique analysis.

Indicative Module Content
Observation of movement; systematic models of qualitative technique analysis; deterministic models of technique analysis; principles of movement (position, orientation, velocity, acceleration, force production); quantitative analysis of performance; accepted 2D filming protocols; Quintic biomechanics software; comparison to model proformas; assessment of reliability; justification of methods.

Module Delivery
Combination of lectures, workshops and practical sessions.
