Aims of Module
To develop a contextual understanding of current and developing clinical practice.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Investigate the potential for, and evaluate the implications of, extended roles and entrepreneurship in physiotherapy practice.
2 Discuss and justify service development involving physiotherapy within the context of an area of healthcare.
3 Discuss the complexities involved in clinical leadership, policy implementation and the management of change in the UK and internationally.
4 Critically discuss the role of patient/public involvement in decision making in health and social care.

Indicative Module Content
PROFESSIONAL - Leadership skills - change management and staff leadership. Clinical leadership and autonomous practice. Present and future roles within health and social care. Advanced practice, extended roles and extended scope. Technological and digital advances in health care - environmental impact. Current issues in physiotherapy practice provision including clinical effectiveness and clinical governance. Teaching and learning; clinical education. Creativity relating to business planning and sustainable service development. Practice administration. Service improvement and the relationship with quality. Sustainable service delivery. Team working theory and practice. Management of complaints. Personal development, continuing professional development, reflection. Application and modification of current evidence-based higher-level techniques in the core areas of physiotherapy practice; respiratory; neurological; MSK. Simulated practice. Interprofessional working. Legal responsibilities and ethical considerations of professional practice. Equality and diversity policy. Awareness of local and national guidelines, standards and policies related to clinical practice and patient care.
