Aims of Module | |||

To develop independence in the application of the research and practice evaluation process and to integrate the use of the research process within clinical practice. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Independently execute a detailed research, or evidence based practice study, in a specific area relevant to professional practice. |
2 | Critically evaluate data (primary or secondary) relevant to physiotherapy practice. |
3 | Synthesise evidence based arguments to inform professional practice. |
4 | Critically evaluate the ethical implications of conducting a research or evidence based practice study. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
RESEARCH - Literature search. Engagement in critical analysis of literature. Synthesis and integration of literature. Critical discrimination between, and reasoned choice of, different research methodologies for different purposes. Ethical and research governance permissions. Sustainable research models. Primary and secondary research process and application. Systematic review; audit, service development. Data collection and analysis, reduction and data analysis. Ethical and equality/diversity issues in research, data handling & data analysis. Dissemination of research findings within the context of clinical practice through a formal report. Application of research findings to clinical practice. |
Module Delivery |
---|
Problem solving tutorials, student led seminars and presentations. Each student will be allocated a project supervisor from whom (s)he will receive tutorial support and relevant advice. The meetings will be initiated by the student and the supervisor will act as a facilitator. Conference, poster dissemination. |
