Prerequisites for Module

In addition to an Honours degree, applicants shall evidence that they have undertaken HSM144 Evidence Based Practice in Clinical Hypnotherapy and HSM146 Hypnotherapeutic Principles & Practice or equivalent.

Aims of Module

To enable the student to demonstrate critical application and evaluation of key clinical hypnotherapy skills

Learning Outcomes for Module

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

1. Critically discuss the decision making process involved in the treatment planning and on going treatment evaluation of clients attending for clinical hypnotherapy with a range of complexity in their presenting conditions and intervention requirements.
2. Critically evaluate the application of key approaches utilised in hypnotherapy in the management of clients with a variety of conditions.

Indicative Module Content

Communication skills and active listening – advanced skills, Holistic client centred care, Principles of record keeping, Clinical decision making, Philosophy and principles underpinning hypnotherapy, Ethics and professionalism, Continuing professional development
Methodologies in hypnotherapy: effects of interventions, relationships between different methodologies, role of the client and therapist, barriers to successful therapy
Problem solving, Modifications and adaptations to interventions, Self-care exercises and aftercare, Patient case management strategies & evaluation, Reflection
