On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the variety of health care data sources and their collective value for the extraction of key business information. |
2 | Effectively evaluate the results of data analysis to make informed decisions regarding changes to health and social care. |
3 | Demonstrate a critical understanding of research methods and critical appraisal of literature relevant to epidemiology and public health. |
4 | Critically discuss how epidemiology, public health needs and demographic changes may drive changes in how health and social care services are delivered. |
5 | Critically evaluate the policy drivers shaping the contemporary health and social care agenda. |
Indicative Module Content |

Health and social care policy; Global health and social care systems; The role of epidemiology in Public Health; Role of epidemiology in determining the financial impact on health services and informing strategies to reduce economical cost and optimise quality care and management; Health needs assessment; Asset auditing; basic biostatistics; critical appraisal of epidemiological studies and their application to practice; Ethics; Introduction to research methods; Critical appraisal skills; Critical writing skills. Data analytics: data collection, integration, cleansing, analysis, visualisation and interpretation. NHS and Social Services Governance, Quality and Service Improvement models. |
