Aims of Module
This module aims to develop clinical knowledge and professional radiography skills within a general radiography clinical setting.
Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

Indicative Module Content
This practice-based module will include experiential learning involving practice with supervision appropriate to the level of training, professional discussion and reflective activities which involve linking theory with practice. This will include orientation to the department and observation of the wider departmental clinical practices on a day by day basis. The student will also have opportunities to self-assess radiographic skills and to plan and organise involvement in the department. Attendance at appropriate clinical meetings will be encouraged and the student will develop an understanding of the multi-disciplinary nature of radiographic practice. The student will be given the opportunity to reflect on his/her progress,to explore personal strengths and to implement strategies to overcome weakness.
| The student will be expected to maintain awareness of local rules required to undertake safe radiographic practice, in adherence with the Ionising Radiation Regulations (IRR 1999) and the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IR[ME]R 2000). The student will receive initial training, be aware of and practice at all times, in accordance with standard infection control precautions to minimise the risks of healthcare associated infection. Delivery of the module will take into account the need to ensure that aspects of practice and the development of a radiographic skills base is couched in the context of the codes of conduct and ethics set out by the Health Professions Council and the College of Radiographers.

Mode of Delivery
This is a practice based module with supportive input from academic staff. This module consists of placement elements. Each student will undertake 35 hours per week in the nominated clinical imaging department for a period of 6 weeks, this will equate to 210 contact hours. The principles of reflective practice and the practical application of these will be encouraged and facilitated through the module delivery strategy.
