Aims of Module
To enable students to examine and critically evaluate emerging trends and policies in the wider area of sports and exercise science and nutrition, and consider their impact on health promotion, sports participation, performance and professional practice.
Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

Discuss the principles of health improvement and health promotion in relation to physical activity, sports participation, performance and nutrition.

Critically examine the impact of inequalities on the health, nutrition, sports participation and performance of individuals and communities.

Evaluate the impact of current policies, legislation and Code of Ethics and Statement of Professional Conduct, on sports and nutrition practice in athletes and professionals.

Indicative Module Content
EU and international platform on nutrition and physical activity policies. Policies, rules, ethics and legal aspects that govern sports and sporting participation. The impact of inequalities and disability on sports participation and performance, health promotion and long term quality of life.
| Antidoping, health and nutrition claims, legislative issues and Code of Ethics and Statement of Professional Conduct at national and international level. Transferability of skills across populations.
