Aims of Module
To increase awareness of the importance of primary and secondary research in clinical practice. To facilitate the students' development of critical analysis of a range of research methods and the systematic critical review of literature.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Independently execute a detailed evidenced practice study in the field of child development and child mental health.
2 Systematically gather, synthesise and critique relevant literature in the field of child development and child mental health.
3 Integrate and relate discriminative understanding of research methodologies to the critical analysis of relevant literature in the field of child development and child mental health.
4 Synthesise evidence based arguments to inform professional practice.
5 Critically evaluate data (secondary) relevant to professional practice.

Indicative Module Content
Systematic review of literature, Synthesis and integration of critical analysis of literature, critical discrimination between and reasoned choice of different research methodologies for different purposes, data analysis.

The student will be required to submit a 3000 word systematic review.

F Failed to achieve any of the above.
NS Non-submission of work by published deadline or non-attendance for examination

Prerequisites for Module MSc Psychoanalytic Observation and Reflective Practice, work with children and young people (or equivalent by agreement with the Course Directors).
