Aims of Module | |||
---|---|---|---|
To enable the student to apply and evaluate the knowledge and skills required to develop practice in psychotherapeutic work with children of different ages, genders, with a range of presenting problems and with their parents/carers and families. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of transference phenomena and apply and evaluate transference and counter-transference in clinical sessions. |
2 | Discuss and evaluate the clinical reasoning in relation to professional assessments for psychotherapy and state of mind assessments. |
3 | Evaluate relevant and appropriate strategies for the management of risk in a psychoanalytic session. |
4 | Demonstrate knowledge of, apply and critically evaluate psychotherapeutic techniques for working with children and young people with specific needs. |
5 | Critically analyse relevant psychoanalytic theories. |
Indicative Module Content |

ACP competency framework; NHS governance; relevant policy and legislation; adaptation of techniques to specific clinical populations across the lifespan and key transition periods eg perinatal, young child, latency, adolescence, parent and family work; looked after children and young people; complex trauma; comorbidity and developmental disorders. |
Module Delivery |
---|
The module will primarily be undertaken in the clinical environment supported by a placement supervisor. In addition the student will undertake directed reading, seminars, lectures and practical workshops. Students undertake placement full time over the course of a calendar year working a 37.5 hour week with 28 days holiday and 8 statutory public holidays. |
