Aims of Module | |||

To provide students with the ability to demonstrate competence in an independent piece of research in his/her chosen field of study. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |
---|---|
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Search and review literature on a research topic and prepare a research protocol. |
2 | Use the procedures outlined in the research protocol and analyse information derived from the research. |
3 | Write a dissertation in the form of a paper to a relevant journal encompassing a literature review establishing a need for the research, methods used, results obtained, discussion of the validity of the methods, the implications of the results and their relationship to the literature, conclusions made and any recommendations deriving from the research, with citations and references in the prescribed style. |
Indicative Module Content |

Advanced techniques of bibliographic searching and information technology required for dissertation. Independent research on a relevant topic. Analysis and presentation of data collected in a research project. |
Module Delivery |
---|
This is a practical module devoted to research in a relevant field of study and may involve a wide range of techniques. The module is delivered by contact with an individual supervisor. There is provision for other staff to be involved in supervision in cases where this would provide expertise to supplement that of the supervisor. There is provision for time during the module for practical classes to update students with advanced techniques in information technology. |
