Aims of Module
This module provides the student with the opportunity critically appraise previous practice placement experience, applying the outcome to identify, plan and organise an elective practice placement which aims to enhance personal and professional development and employability.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Justify the rationale for an elective practice placement proposal based on critical appraisal of previous experience and underpinned by relevant literature.
2 Demonstrate consistent and effective communication, organisational and time management skills.
3 Demonstrate independent practice based on critical evaluation and clinical reasoning.
4 Critically appraise the evidence base within the practice placement, and contextualise occupational therapy practice.
5 Demonstrate learning, assessment and development by reflecting on personal and professional needs, and enhancing employability in the workplace, whilst managing own health and wellbeing.

Indicative Module Content
This practice based module has a focus on experiential learning involving occupational therapy practice, professional discussion and reflective activities supporting connections between theory and practice relevant to the stage of learning of the student. Under the supervision of the practice educator the student will engage in a range of activities integral to occupational therapy practice demonstrating an appropriate level of care and communication towards service users including obtaining informed consent and exercising a professional duty of care. Experiential learning involving practice, professional discussion and reflective activities including linking theory to practice.; consideration of current evidence and how research supports practice; occupational perspective; contextualisation; participation in assessment, planning and implementation; self and caseload management; reflection on practice; economic context; political context; critical evaluation; involvement in interdisciplinary practice; service evaluation; completion of learning agreement; reflection on personal objectives; reflection and discussion of the practice setting; exploration of personal and professional development, independent practice, extended scope of practice, transition to work.

Prerequisites for Module Successful completion of Stage 3 of the Master of Occupational Therapy. Provisional pass in HS4009 Practice Placement 4.
Corequisites for module None.
Precluded Modules None.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
Halfway contacts (or additional supervision contacts for contemporary placements) by academic staff will help to monitor student's progress, integrate academic based and practice placement studies and ensure standardisation of assessment. This placement will form part of the evidence of satisfactory completion of 1,000 hours of Practice Education required by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists.
