Aims of Module
This module will support the student to apply and critically justify the occupational therapy process in its entirety, appraising and revising treatment interventions to conclusion in the context of policy, evidence based practice and partnership working.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Evaluate the occupational therapy process as applied to an allocated caseload.
2 Effectively organise workload and self, interacting independently with patients/clients, carers and other professionals.
3 Evaluate the influence of key policy drivers in the delivery of effective occupational therapy practice.
4 Critically appraise the scope of practice for occupational therapy in creating collaborative partnership working.
5 Compile a personal and professional development plan determined by reflection in and on practice, whilst managing own health and wellbeing.

Indicative Module Content
This practice based module has a focus on experiential learning involving occupational therapy practice, professional discussion and reflective activities supporting connections between theory and practice relevant to the stage of learning of the student. Induction to the setting; communication skills; occupational therapy process; assessment/information gathering; documentation; planning; implementing; evaluation of intervention; evidence based practice; routine management tasks; health and safety/risk management; attendance at appropriate meetings; reflection and analysis of practice; trans disciplinary working; personal and professional behaviour and development.

Module Delivery
This practice based module will be facilitated by a partnership between the student, practice educator and academic staff. Each student will undertake 34 hours per week in the nominated practice placement setting for a period of 6 weeks which equates to 204 contact hours. In addition students are allocated 3.5 hours of directed study per week totalling 21 hours. This will equate to 225 hours in total.
