Aims of Module
To enable students to apply knowledge and skills in the assessment and treatment of patients to the practice setting. To enable students to apply a whole person and sustainable management approach and demonstrate professional values to all service users. To enable students to develop communication, team-working, leadership, organisational skills, evaluation, problem solving and clinical reasoning skills in relation to both the management of service users care and their own professional development.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Effectively assess service users to determine their needs; plan, apply, critically evaluate and modify treatment; and consistently demonstrate safe practice.
2 Discuss and evaluate clinical reasoning in relation to assessment findings and response to treatment, relate clinical reasoning to the evidence base, and record all appropriately.
3 Communicate effectively and evaluate own role within the interprofessional and wider team, whilst demonstrating the use of leadership and initiative in the management of workload and delegation of tasks.
4 Evaluate service users health improvement needs, and evaluate and implement strategies using an enabling approach with appropriate goals.
5 Demonstrate the values and attitudes required of a physiotherapist, displaying professionalism at all times, and evaluate and direct own professional development.

Indicative Module Content
This clinical practice based module will include experiential learning. Professionalism: Application of safe practice including mandatory training and protocols. Professional practice, standards, policies and procedures. Care, compassion respect and empathy. Team working, time management, administrative duties, organisation, delegation and leadership. Clinical skills: Assessment, treatment and management of service users. Clinical reasoning, problem solving, enablement and goal setting. Sustainability and inclusivity. Use of relevant professional documentation. Transferring knowledge and skills from academic modules and the available evidence base to support practice. Communication with service users, educators, tutors, interdisciplinary team members, support staff and other relevant parties. Personal Development: Reflection, development and learning opportunities.

Module Delivery
This module is a placement undertaken in a Physiotherapy based clinical setting (may include virtual mediums of delivery). Each student will undertake 30 hours per week for a period of 6 weeks. This will equate to 180 contact hours. Students will also be expected to undertake directed study (identified reading) and private study according to individual need.

MODULE PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTOR
Explanatory Text
Placement is assessed by a criterion referenced assessment related directly to the learning outcomes. Students will be formatively assessed throughout with at least one formalised assessment and will be summatively assessed at the end of the placement. This module is assessed on a pass/fail (unsuccessful) basis.

Fail One or more Learning Outcomes not achieved.
NS Non-submission of work by published deadline or non-attendance for examination

Prerequisites for Module Successful completion of all Stage Three modules of the Masters of Physiotherapy. Completion of HSM191.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
This module is 180 hours contact time in total. Students on placement and clinical educators will normally receive one contact with a member of academic staff to integrate academic based studies with clinical experience, monitor students' progress and contribute to formative feedback/feed forward advice. Additional contacts may be arranged as necessary.
