Aims of Module
The aim of this module is to provide the students with the ability to evaluate the role of the radiographer and to explain how this role is integrated into the healthcare team and its relationship with service provision in different healthcare settings.
Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

Evaluate the roles of all team members within a specified diagnostic imaging department.

Plan, undertake evaluate and modify radiographic imaging protocols for patients who present with specific imaging problems.

Make competent recommendations based on the results of appropriate evaluations.

Recognise the need for a co-ordinated approach to service provision in problem-based imaging.

Contribute to his/her self-development by reflection on personal strengths and weaknesses.

Indicative Module Content
This practice-based module will include experiential learning involving supervised practice, professional discussion and reflective activities which involve linking theory and practice. This will include orientation to the department and observation of the clinical practices of the clinical supervisor on a day to day basis. The student will also participate in imaging procedures and will have opportunities to self-assess radiographic skills and to plan and organise involvement in the department. Attendance at appropriate clinical meetings will be encouraged. The student will be given the opportunity to reflect on and discuss his/her progress and to explore personal strengths and weaknesses.

Mode of Delivery
This is a practice based module with supportive input from academic staff. This module consists of placement elements. Each student will undertake 35 hours per week in the nominated clinical imaging departnment for a period of 6 weeks, this will equate to approximately 210 contact hours.
