Aims of Module
To enable the student to evaluate the role and application of physiotherapy throughout the patient experience of physiotherapy.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Discuss the needs of those with complex health problems and the impact on rehabilitation across patient populations.
2 Discuss the adaptations and modifications required for effective patient rehabilitation throughout the patient experience.
3 Discuss the role of interdisciplinary working in patient management and the features required for effective team working.
4 Discuss the role of empowerment in the management of those with complex problems.
5 Effectively justify and adapt a range of appropriate treatments for patients with complex problems.

Indicative Module Content
Current relevant policies to include; Disability Discrimination Act, Adults with incapacity. Complex disability, poly trauma, long term care, self management, goal setting, IDT. Management of pain, mental health, psychology of trauma, women's health, paediatric rehabilitation, palliative care, bariatric care, pharmacology, hydrotherapy, FES, TNS, IFT, modifications to communication. Strategies for motivation and behaviour and physical activity in complex cases. Person-centeredness. shared decision making, joint goal setting. Prioritisation. Ethical decision making and values. Occupational rehabilitation, ergonomics, workplace assessment. Equity and diversity issues. Carers. Advocacy. Multi-agency working. settings; emergency, in-patient care, community care. Ethical and moral dilemmas, Empowerment, re-enablement. Scope of practice.
