Aims of Module
To introduce the student to: evidence based practice in occupational therapy for individuals with selected physical dysfunctions.
Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

Construct and evaluate a selection of static hand splints.

Describe the epidemiology, aetiology and clinical course and MDT management of selected connective tissue, orthopaedic and traumatic conditions.

Detail the specific skills of the occupational therapist in the treatment of clients with these conditions.

Select, collate and reflect upon the occupational therapy literature with respect to the treatment of clients with these conditions.

Indicative Module Content
Aetiology, epidemiology, pathology, clinical features, risk factors, medical and surgical management associated with selected connective tissue, orthopaedic and traumatic conditions. Improvement of health in individuals with these conditions. The role and skills of the occupational therapist within the interdisciplinary team in the overall management of individuals with these conditions. Models and approaches to treatment. Investigation of and reflection upon the occupational therapy literature pertinent to selected conditions.

Component 2 - Learning outcome 1 is assessed by completed splints (on a pass/fail basis. In order to pass this module you are required to have an 80% attendance at classes.
