Satisfactory completion of Level 2 modules of the BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy course.

Aims of Module

The aim of this module is to enable the student to explore the concepts of leisure and productivity in relation to the needs of people with both acute and enduring health problems.

Learning Outcomes for Module

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

1. Outline and discuss the various factors, (legislative framework, governmental policies, funding sources and other cultural factors), that influence the health and safety of individuals engaged in work, unpaid productive occupations and leisure.
2. Discuss, in detail, one area of occupational therapy practice, comparing and contrasting practices in two different countries.
3. Evaluate the significance of occupation to human health and well-being, the treatment medium potential of selected occupations and issues associated with access to productive and leisure occupations.
4. Reflect on and discuss their ability to appreciate and accept the unique qualities of a culture different from their own.
5. Discuss the contribution of occupational science to the understanding of health and well-being.

Occupations, inclusion, work, ergonomics, design, risk assessment, leisure, transport, models of disability, stigma, ethos of work and stigma of unemployment. Occupational science - health and well-being, cultural competence.

Component 1 - This module will be assessed through a poster presentation supported by an oral presentation. In order to pass this module you are required to have an 80% attendance at classes.
