Aims of Module
This module will support the student to apply critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills within the occupational therapy process, implementing and justifying treatment interventions in the context of both evidence based practice and the inter-professional team.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Apply clinical reasoning skills based on critical evaluation of occupational therapy assessment and intervention.
2 Actively manage self in relation to practice learning opportunities, liaising appropriately.
3 Justify the selection and application of theoretical models and approaches to underpin evidence based occupational therapy practice.
4 Critically appraise the roles and responsibilities of the interprofessional team in assessing, treating, intervening and caring for a patient.
5 Reflect on personal and professional needs to consolidate learning, assessment and development, whilst managing own health and wellbeing.

Indicative Module Content
This practice based module has a focus on experiential learning involving occupational therapy practice, professional discussion and reflective activities supporting connections between theory and practice relevant to the stage of learning of the student.Under the supervision of the practice educator the student will engage in a range of activities integral to occupational therapy practice demonstrating an appropriate level of care and communication towards service users including obtaining informed consent and exercising a professional duty of care. Induction to the setting; communication skills; occupational therapy process; assessment/information gathering; documentation; planning; implementing; evaluation of intervention; evidence based practice; routine management tasks; health and safety/risk management; attendance at appropriate meetings; reflection and analysis of practice; inter-disciplinary working; personal and professional behaviour and development.

Module Delivery
This practice based module will be facilitated by a partnership between the student, practice educator and academic staff. Each student will undertake 34 hours per week in the nominated practice placement setting for a period of 8 weeks which equates to 272 contact hours. In addition students will have a half day of self - directed study per week of 3.5 hours totalling 28 hours.

Explanatory Text
This is a practice placement module and is graded on a pass/fail basis.
Module Grade Minimum Requirements to achieve Module Grade:
Pass Pass in all aspects on the practice placement report form
Fail Fail in one or more aspects on the practice placement report form
NS Non-submission of work by published deadline or non-attendance for examination

Prerequisites for Module Successful completion of Stage 2 Master of Occupational Therapy course or equivalent.
Corequisites for module None.
Precluded Modules None.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
Halfway contacts by academic staff aid to monitor the student's progress and integrate academic based and practice placement studies. This placement will form part of the evidence of satisfactory completion of 1,000 hours of practice education required by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists and World Federation of Occupational Therapists.
