Aims of Module
To enable the student to apply knowledge and skills in the assessment and treatment of patients in the practice setting. To enable students to apply a whole person and sustainable management approach and demonstrate professional values to all service users. To enable the student to develop further interpersonal skills such as evaluation, problem solving and clinical reasoning in the management of patients.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Assess the patient effectively and analyse, integrate and interpret patient assessment data using a whole person approach to establish the patient's real and potential problems independently.
2 Discuss and direct clinical reasoning in relation to assessment findings and response to treatment, relate clinical reasoning to the evidence base and record all appropriately.
3 Communicate effectively, explore and reflect on own role within the interprofessional and wider team, whilst demonstrating the use of initiative in the prioritisation of own workload and begin to delegate tasks when appropriate.
4 Discuss service user's health improvement needs, analyse and implement strategies using an enabling approach with appropriate goals.
5 Demonstrate the value and attitudes required of a Physiotherapist, displaying professionalism at all times and discuss and undertake own professional development.

Indicative Module Content
Professionalism: Local policies and standards that are relevant to practice. Risk assessment, moving and handling, infection control. Communication. Ethical and humanitarian principles. Morality. Confidentiality. Clinical skills: Application of relevant physiotherapy knowledge and skills. linking theory to practice, participation in patient/client treatment/management programmes, opportunities to teach skills, planning and organising. Exercise prescription. Health improvement. Interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary working. A whole person approach with reference to issues surrounding equity, diversity, inclusivity, ethnicity, values and beliefs of individuals in the clinical context. Sustainability. Personal development: Professional discussion and development, reflective activities, PDP. Unit/department routine management tasks, attendance at appropriate meetings, opportunities for reporting and recording, opportunities to reflect on and discuss the clinical setting, opportunities to explore personal strengths and weaknesses.

Module Delivery
This is a work-based practice module (may include virtual mediums of delivery). This module comprises a clinical placement. Each student will undertake 30 hours per week in the placement for a period of 7 week which will equate to 210 contact hours. Students will also be expected to undertake directed study (identified reading) and private study according to individual need.

MODULE PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTOR
Explanatory Text
Placement is assessed by a criterion referenced assessment related directly to the learning outcomes. Students will be formatively assessed throughout with at least one formalised assessment and will be summatively assessed at the end of the placement. This module is assessed on a pass/fail (unsuccessful) basis.
Module Grade Minimum Requirements to achieve Module Grade:
Pass All Learning Outcomes achieved.
Fail One or more Learning outcomes not achieved.
NS Non-submission of work by published deadline or non-attendance for examination

Prerequisites for Module Successful completion of all Stage One and Two Modules within the Master of Physiotherapy course. Completion of Stage Three Modules: HS3071, HS3131.
Corequisites for module None.
Precluded Modules None.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
Students on placement and clinical educators will normally receive one contact with member of academic staff to integrate academic based studies with clinical experience, monitor students' progress and contribute to formative feedback/feed forward advice. Additional contacts may be arranged as necessary.
