Aims of Module | |||
---|---|---|---|
To orientate students to the health and social care environment and, with supervision, provide them with an opportunity to see the Nutrition and Dietetic Care Process in action and practice a number of the steps with service users, demonstrating appropriate communication, information gathering and professional values. |

Indicative Module Content |

This practice based module will focus on experiential learning, within health and social care settings, involving dietetic practice, professional discussion and reflective activities supporting connections between theory and practice relevant to the stage of learning of the student. Application of safe practice including mandatory training and protocols: Equality and Diversity; Manual Handling; Violence and aggression; Basic Life Support. Consent. Professional practice, standards, policies and procedures. Nutrition and Dietetic Care Model and Process; Professionalism, Communication, identification of nutritional need and assessment, nutritional diagnosis, planning and implementing interventions, monitoring and review, quality improvement and service evaluation. Working with others. Leadership. HCPC Standards of Proficiency, HCPC Guidance on Conduct and Ethics for Students. Fitness to Practice. Portfolio development. Peer Assisted Learning. |

This is a work based practice module undertaken in both the University campus and dietetic practice settings. Practice settings have been approved for placement provision and are monitored by the Scottish Cluster Dietetic Placements group. |

Description: | Component 1 is assessed as a competence via portfolio of evidence by the Practice Educator in the dietetic practice setting. The assessment consists of supervised assessed practice and pieces of written work as determined by the Scottish Cluster Dietetic Placements group. The student and their Practice Educator carry out an ongoing review of progress and a portfolio is compiled throughout the placement. |
