Prerequisites for Module

Successful completion of all stage one modules and first semester modules of stage two of the BSc(Hons)Diagnostic Radiography will normally be required.

Aims of Module

To provide the student with the ability to enhance and build upon radiographic knowledge, understanding, clinical skills and professional attitudes developed during year one of the programme.
This module will introduce a wider range of patient groups and radiographic procedures including contrast investigations.

Learning Outcomes for Module

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

1. Demonstrate effective communication skills with a diverse range of patients and multidisciplinary colleagues.
2. Apply safe and effective practices in a diverse range of radiographic examinations.
3. Demonstrate professional behaviours, conduct and attitudes.
4. Practice a wide range of radiographic procedures under clinical supervision.
5. Reflect on and discuss new learning from clinical practice.

Indicative Module Content

This practice-based module will include experiential learning involving supervised practice, professional discussion and reflective activities which involve linking theory with practice. This will include orientation to the department and observation of the clinical practices on a day by day basis.
The student will also have opportunities to self-assess radiographic skills and to plan and organise involvement in the department. Attendance at appropriate clinical meetings will be encouraged. The student will be given the opportunity to reflect on and discuss his/her progress and to explore personal strengths and to implement strategies to overcome weaknesses.

Mode of Delivery

This is a practice based module with supportive input from academic staff. This module consists of placement elements. Each student will undertake 35 hours per week in the nominated clinical imaging department for a period of 10 weeks, this will equate to 350 contact hours.

Learning outcomes 1, 2 and 3 are assessed by continous clinical assessment.

Learning outcome 5 is assessed by case presentation.

Learning outcome 4 is assessed by practical assessment. Students are required to have completed three portfolio competencies by the end of this module.
