Aims of Module
To enable the students to integrate the theoretical basis of a range of methods of general physical exercise with their practical application in a sport centre environment with different populations.
Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

Implement exercise programme design using an interactive computer method.

Explain the theoretical basis of general and more specific exercises.

Identify the key components of a teaching plan for different types of exercise session.

Explain and apply the principles of risk assessment in the delivery of a teaching session in a practical setting.

Plan and lead a group exercise session.

Indicative Module Content
Specific user group requirements, use of equipment, implementation of training programme, exercise progression, safety issues, implementation of teaching skills, structuring an exercise session, skill acquisition, providing feedback on performance, basic principles of conditioning and application of motor and cognitive learning.

This course will include the syllabus material necessary for gymnasium instructor award at SVQ level 2. Once validated by an external assessor, students will be eligible to take this exam for a nominal administration charge.
