Aims of Module
The aim of this module is to assist the students in the application of anatomy and pathologial processes in analytically assessing patients with musculoskeletal problems and justifying the choice of treatments.
Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

Perform, document and analyse an appropriate peripheral and/or spinal musculoskeletal assessment.

Select and apply manual/mechanical therapy techniques and principles safely.

3. |
Discuss the management and treatment of patients utilising the different concepts of manual/mechanical musculoskeletal therapy.

4. |
Apply the principles of fluid dynamics to the development and progression of exercises in water.
|
5. |
Recognise and appraise the precautions, indications, modifications and contra-indications to hydrotherapy and manual/mechanical musculo- skeletal therapy.

Indicative Module Content
The content will include the principles and practice of hydrotherapy; manual and exercise therapy following the concepts of Maitland mobilisation, McKenzie therapy, muscle imbalance, nags and snags (overview) and adverse mechanical/neural tension. Patient assessment and examination, treatment /management, practice of techniques, contra-indications, precautions, modifications, safety factors. Clinical reasoning, goal setting and documentation.
