Successful completion of the Level 1 modules of the BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography will normally be required.

Corequisite Modules

None.

Precluded Modules

None.

Aims of Module

The aim of this module is to provide the student with the necessary anatomical, physiological and pathological knowledge of the skull, vertebral column and nervous system to enable the student to perform diagnostic imaging examinations of the region.

Learning Outcomes for Module

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

1. Describe the normal and variant anatomy of the skull and vertebral column.
2. Discuss radiography of the skull and vertebral column.
3. Discuss the organisation, gross and microscopic anatomy of the central and peripheral nervous system.
4. Evaluate normal and variant neuroradiographic appearance relating abnormal appearance to pathology.

Indicative Module Content

Anatomy, physiology and pathologies of the cranium and vertebral column.
Anatomy, physiology and pathologies of the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system.
