Aims of Module
This module will enable the student to apply the occupational therapy process in practice, interpreting assessment information, demonstrating treatment planning and distinguishing core occupational therapy skills within an inter-professional context. The student will be facilitated to explore the relationship between occupation and health and well-being to individuals.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Clarify all aspects of the occupational therapy process demonstrating specifically knowledge and skills of treatment planning for selected caseload.
2 Relate occupational therapy theoretical concepts and models to selected caseload.
3 Explain the strengths and weaknesses of evidence supporting an aspect of occupational therapy in relation to the practice area.
4 Distinguish the core occupational therapy skills demonstrated within the inter-professional team.
5 Discuss and compare the relationship between occupation, health and well-being, whilst managing own health and wellbeing.

Indicative Module Content
This practice based module has a focus on experiential learning involving occupational therapy practice, professional discussion and reflective activities supporting connections between theory and practice relevant to the stage of learning of the student.Under the supervision of the practice educator the student will engage in a range of activities integral to occupational therapy practice demonstrating an appropriate level of care and communication towards service users including obtaining informed consent and exercising a professional duty of care Induction to the setting; communication skills; occupational therapy process; assessment/information gathering; documentation; planning; implementing; evaluation of intervention; evidence based practice; routine management tasks; health and safety/risk management; attendance at appropriate meetings; reflection and analysis of practice; personal and professional behaviour and development; value and meaning of occupation to individuals.

Module Delivery
This practice based module will be facilitated by a partnership between the student, practice educator and academic staff. Each student will undertake 34 hours per week in the nominated practice placement setting for a period of 8 weeks which equates to 272 contact hours. In addition students are allocated 3.5 hours of directed study per week

Prerequisites for Module Successful completion of Stage 1 Master of Occupational Therapy course or equivalent.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
Halfway contacts by academic staff will assist in monitoring the student's progress and integrate academic based and practice studies. Students return to university for 3 weeks following this placement to discuss, prepare and present their assessed appraisal. Individual assessments will form part of the evidence of satisfactory completion of 1,000 hours of practice education required by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists and World Federation of Occupational Therapists.
