Aims of Module

The aim of this module is: 1. to increase critical awareness of the influence of policy at both National and Local levels, on the work of health promotion. 2. to enable the individual to develop the ability to analyse, develop and implement. 3. to increase a critical awareness of the ethical and policy issues which affect the planning and delivery of health promotion.

Learning Outcomes for Module

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

1. Relate the development of health education/promotion to present day practice.
2. Examine critically the process of policy.
3. Discuss health promotion in the context of social and political policy.
4. Discuss the ethical issues in health promotion.
5. Analyse the current use of policy in health promotion to influence positive health.

Indicative Module Content

Development of Health Education/Health Promotion; policy analysis; agencies for health promotion; influence of government policy on health promotion; analysis of the policy process; health promotion as social policy; ethical and political issues; ethics and health promotion.
