Aims of Module
To enable students to safely and effectively perform and interpret physiotherapy assessments and to plan and implement basic physiotherapy treatments.
Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

Indicative Module Content
General: Health and safety legislation, responsibilities, local rules and safety policies, fire regulations; Risk assessment and awareness of risk management in clinical settings; Legal and ethical guidelines for NHS, Patients' Charter, Informed Consent and Code of Practice for the profession; patient care, monitoring and management, awareness of the patient in pain; awareness of local and national guidelines, standards and policies related to patient care; Regulatory legislation; Recording and methods of record keeping, medico-legal aspects, confidentiality and ethical issues. Subjective assessment; Objective assessment (including special tests & basic functional & gait analysis, vital signs, palpation and auscultation, functional assessment); Linking subjective & objective/Rx planning; Documentation/goals/problem plans/ Recording and obtaining consent. • Clinical Reasoning • Communication and professionalism • Exercise – Physiology, Psychology/behaviour change/adherence, Principles of prescription (Aerobic/flexibility/strength), Physical Activity, Promotion, Group exercise, PNF • Balance/postural control/stability
