Aims of Module
To provide the student with the ability to develop radiographic practice within a designated placement and begin to develop professional skills and attitudes. From a radiographic perspective this module will introduce general diagnostic imaging investigations.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Demonstrate appropriate communication skills with patients and radiology colleagues.
2 Apply safe and effective practice in radiographic examinations.
3 Practice radiographic procedures under clinical supervision.
4 Reflect upon effective diagnostic imaging practice.
5 Demonstrate the values and attitudes required of a diagnostic radiographer, displaying professionalism at all times and identify areas for professional development whilst managing own health and well-being.

Indicative Module Content
This practice-based module will include experiential learning involving supervised practice, professional discussion and reflective activities which involve linking theory with practice. This will include orientation to the department and observation of the clinical practices on a day by day basis. Under supervision, the student will undertake a range of radiographic procedures, demonstrating an appropriate level of care and communication before, during and after the intervention. The student will also have opportunities to self-assess radiographic skills and to plan and organise involvement in the department. Attendance at appropriate clinical meetings will be encouraged. The student will be given the opportunity to reflect on and discuss his/her progress and to explore personal strengths and to implement strategies to overcome weaknesses.

Module Delivery
This is a practice based module with supportive input from academic staff. Each student will undertake 37.5 hours per week in the nominated clinical imaging department for a period of 4 weeks; this will equate to 150 contact hours.

Prerequisites for Module A prerequisite for module HS1149 Radiography Practice Placement 1 will normally be evidence of a provisional pass in the practical assessment component of modules HS1152 Personal and Professional Development and HS1197 Foundations of Radiographic Practice.
