Aims of Module | |||
---|---|---|---|
The aim is to develop student skills in identifying, understanding, and presenting literature, data and information. This will encompass key skills essential to all years of higher education, including researching, reading, writing, referencing, and critical thinking, whilst being able to present academic literature, both written and verbally. |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Use a range of skills to search, analyse and present evidence. |
2 | Develop the ability to effectively interpret academic literature and research. |
3 | Develop an academic argument supported by relevant literature. |

Indicative Module Content |

Preparation for academic study(resilience, time management and organisational skills (pedagogy), reading and note-making, academic writing and speaking skills, critical thinking skills, referencing, paraphrasing, structuring an argument and understanding plagiarism (academic integrity), groupwork and presentation skills, confidence with numbers (descriptive statistics), research principles (searching, understanding source materials, quality, validity and trustworthiness of information, data collection and management, data analysis, presenting evidence), research design, reflection(models), personal development, e-portfolio development, digital skills. Data protection, research ethics and governance, sustainability EBP. |
