Aims of Module

To provide the student with the ability to apply radiotherapy practice within a designated placement and to develop professional skills and attitudes.
The module will introduce use of radiotherapy magavoltage treatment equipment, accessory immobilisation equipment, single field and parallel opposed radiotherapy treatment techniques.

Learning Outcomes for Module

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

1. Apply and position radiotherapy immobilisation and accessory equipment as specified by the treatment plan.
2. Deliver a range of single field and parallel opposed radiotherapy treatments as specified by the treatment plan.
3. Use safe working practices within the radiotherapy setting.
4. Describe appropriate communication and care to support the needs of the patient undergoing radiotherapy treatment.

Indicative Module Content

This practice-based module will include experiential learning involving supervised practice, professional discussion and reflective activities which involve linking theory with practice. This will include observation of clinical practice followed by supervised practice in the preparation for and delivery of single field and parallel opposed radiotherapy treatments.
