Aims of Module

To provide the student with the ability to apply radiographic practice within a designated placement and begin to develop professional skills and attitudes.
The module will introduce basic radiographic postioning and technique for diagnostic imaging of the chest.

Learning Outcomes for Module

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

1. Undertake plain film imaging of the chest under clinical supervision.
2. Use safe working practices within the radiation setting.
3. Communicate effectively with patients, carers and clinical staff members.

Indicative Module Content

This practice-based module will include experiential learning involving supervised practice, professional discussion and reflective activities which involve linking theory with practice. This will include observation of clinical practice followed by supervised practice of plain film imaging procedures of the chest.

Mode of Delivery

This is a practice based module. Each student will undertake 35 hours per week in the nominated clinical imaging department for a period of 6 weeks, this will equate to approximately 210 contact hours.

Placement is assessed using continuous clinical assessment and coursework. All elements must be passed.
