Aims of Module
To enable the student to acquire a knowledge base and relevant skills with which to provide safe and appropriate patient and self- care in the placement setting.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Identify key considerations for safe practice placement experience.
2 Demonstrate safe, practical application of clinical skills required for the practice education environment.
3 Present the role of their profession in the provision of person centred care.
4 Demonstrate awareness of legislation, standards, policy and guidelines relevant to practice placement.

Indicative Module Content
Awareness of the patient, adult basic life support, legal and ethical guidelines, informed consent, profession specific Code of Practice, accurate record and document keeping, risk management/H&S legislation, moving and handling, fire regulations, Adult and Child Protection, Infection control policies and procedures, the workplace environment, professional communication, introduction to wheelchairs, walking aids, aids to daily living, recognising and managing violence and aggression in the workplace, equity, diversity and ethnicity.

Module Delivery
This module is delivered utilising a blended learning approach incorporating online resources, tutorial sessions, practical workshops, simulated practice, online postings and directed study.

A PASS: Completed portfolio; evidence of successful engagement with all of the module topics. Successful submission of reflective essay.
B PASS: Completed portfolio; evidence of successful engagement with all of the module topics. Successful submission of reflective essay.
C PASS: Completed portfolio; evidence of successful engagement with all of the module topics. Successful submission of reflective essay.
D PASS: Completed portfolio; evidence of successful engagement with all of the module topics. Successful submission of reflective essay.
E FAIL: Incomplete portfolio; does not have evidence of successful engagement with all of the module topics. Reflective essay inaccurate or not relevant to profession.

Module delivery will be common to students on the School of Health Sciences undergraduate courses: BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy, BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography.
