Aims of Module
To develop an awareness of appropriate research methodologies and methods in relation to their research proposal. To develop competence in selection and application of research methods appropriate to their research proposal.
Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

Discuss the principles, purpose and meaning of research.

Demonstrate a critical awareness of a range of research methods, including data gathering and analysis.

Situate their own research project in terms of existing methodological approaches.

Demonstrate their competence to select, adapt, develop and apply appropriate research methods in the form of a research proposal.

Indicative Module Content
Development of research question/hypothesis data handling and analysis.
| Literature retrieval and selection. Explanation building. Making sense of method. Close working between the supervisor and the module team will ensure that appropriate disciplinary content is developed.
