Aims of Module
To provide the student with the ability to implement project management and understand the factors influencing team-working and good leadership.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Identify the role and responsibilities of the project manager in different organisational settings.
2 Carry out project planning using manual and computer-based IT systems.
3 Carry out a basic economic and environmental impact evaluation of a project.
4 Explain the requirements for successful team-working and the characteristics of a leader.

Indicative Module Content
Review of general management principles. Introduction to project planning, project control, project life cycle, systematic approach to planning, chart systems. Team working, role and responsibilities of project manager. Project documentation. Control techniques, manual and computer-based systems for estimation, planning, costing and decision making. Introduction to team-working, different types of team player, group dynamics. Leadership skills, conflict resolution, understanding motivation issues. Other general and topical issues around the management of projects.

Module Delivery
The module is taught using a structured programme of learning materials, case studies, practical exercises and student-centred learning.
