Aims of Module | |||

To provide the student with the ability to complete an investigation into an engineering topic and to undertake the associated design, implementation and testing as a member of a project group. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Support effectively as an inclusive member of a project team. |
2 | Assess possible solutions to a complex engineering problem, selecting appropriate components and design while acknowledging their limitations and managing risks. |
3 | Experiment selected solutions on an engineering problem. |

5 | Explain personal development and team progress through communication of a portfolio of evidence. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
The group project involves task specification, system design, implementation, evaluation, and project management. Students should discuss the role of quality management systems within the context of their project design. There is no formal syllabus for the group project in general, but seminars are used to provide guidance with regard to project management and report writing. |
Module Delivery |
---|
The group project is student-centred. Students are allocated to groups, each of which has a member of academic staff who acts as a supervisor. Regular weekly meetings take place to review progress. All students must maintain a logbook. |
